Just a cheap flight from Australia away, the islands of Palau provide unique opportunities to experience nature found nowhere else. The waters surrounding Palau are home to 5 species of turtles, 1,500 species of fish, and 700 species of anemones and corals. Palau is one of the few remaining places on Earth to see the last remaining groups of dugongs.

Of the 200 marine lakes in the world, 70 are located in the Rock Islands of Palau. The most outstanding of these lakes, and arguably Palau's biggest attraction, is Jellyfish Lake. 420 metres long, Jellyfish Lake is teeming with millions of jellyfish that migrate constantly both for the sunshine and to avoid predators. The stings of these jellyfish are weak, thus swimming in the lake with them is possible.

The Rock Islands also are a burial site for the islands' early inhabitants. These were dwarf people, extinct now and weighing only 28-47 kg. The Ucheliungs Cave, with an entrance of shallow sea water, features burial sites dating back as far as 2,900 years. Two other burial caves can be found here.

The Chandelier Cave is Palau's most popular diving site. Images of this location are often featured in beautiful calendars, wallpapers, and magazines. Also known as Cave Candelabra, this cave, located near Koror close to the Bay, is a 130-metre-long tunnel that extends underground to the Ngerchaol Islands. Visitors wishing to explore the tunnel must use proper diving equipment. Within the tunnel is an underground lake with astounding limestone creations.
